(Liu S et al. “In vitro and in vivo anti-hepatitis B virus activities of the lignan nirtetralin B isolated from Phyllanthus niruri L.” J Ethnopharmacol. 2014 Nov). Moreover, Phyllanthus niruri aids apoptosis of liver cancer cells.(de Araujo Junior RF et al. “A dry extract of Phyllanthus niruri protects normal cells and induces apoptosis in human liver carcinoma cells.” Exp Biol Med (Maywood) 2012 Nov).

Experimental studies have shown that treatment with Picrorhiza kurroa extract inhibits lipid buildup in the liver.(Shetty SN et al. “A study of standardized extracts of Picrorhiza kurroa Royle ex Benth in experimental nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.” J Ayurveda Integr Med. 2010 Jul).

Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata)

Kalmegh is a time-tested Ayurvedic remedy for liver disorders. The hepatoprotective activity of the herb is primarily attributed to diterpenic labdanes including the key bioactive phytochemical andrographolide present in the plant.(Chua LS et al. “Review on liver inflammation and anti-inflammatory activity of Andrographis paniculata for heaptoprotection.” Phytother Res. 2014 Nov).

Moreover, it also helps in preventing development of liver tumors. (Li JY et al. “Glycyrrhizic acid in the treatment of liver diseases: literature review.” Biomed Res. Int. 2014).
