A lot of us want to increase our metabolism but only a few understand what metabolism is. Metabolism is a chemical process that takes inside a human body. When the food we eat mixes with oxygen it releases energy. The amount of calories our body burns in a day is called metabolism. For people who are trying to lose weight or looking for an active lifestyle, having a high metabolism becomes very important for them. There are some very basic, easy and natural ways to increase your body’s metabolism:
We all know that our body burns calories round the clock even when we are talking, sleeping, or just sitting. This is called the resting metabolism. People who have more muscle in their body have a higher resting metabolism. Hence it is important that we should have more muscle in our body to have a higher metabolism. Do some weight and strength training in the gym which will help you in gaining muscle in your body.
One of the most effective ways to increase metabolism is through aerobics. A high intensity aerobics session can boost your metabolism for hours. It’s true that it will not help you build any muscle but it definitely kicks up your body’s metabolism
Wonder why everyone talks about drinking more water every day? Not many people know that our body needs water to process calories. Lack of water intake slows down body’s metabolism drastically which is why we should have at least 8 glasses of water every day. In addition to this consume fruits and vegetables that have high water content like watermelon, apples, cucumber and lettuce. These will not only elevate your metabolism but also prevent any dehydration during summers.
Don’t Skip Breakfast
One of the most common mistakes we do every day is skipping breakfast. A lot of us either don’t have the time for it or just simply chose to ignore the importance of the day’s first meal. Since our body’s metabolism is naturally the highest early in the morning, skipping breakfast doesn’t provide our body the energy it needs thus slowing down themetabolism. If there is a time crunch try having fruits like apples, oranges on your way to work. Alternately you can make a quick sandwich with tomatoes and cucumber slices that will fill up your stomach and won’t add any extra calories to your diet.
When our body stays hungry for a longer time, it slows down the metabolism. Therefore it’s important to have a snack or a small meal every 3-4 hours in the day. To ensure that frequent snacking doesn’t give you more calories, try healthy snacks like carrots, cucumbers, fruits, a glass of skimmed milk etc. every 3-4 hours in a day. Having frequent meal will ensure that your body doesn’t go into starvation and will thus keep your body’s metabolism steady.
High Protein Diet
The human body burns more calories when digesting protein in comparison to fats or carbohydrates. Adding more protein to your daily diet will not only boost your metabolism but also help you build muscle. Try adding egg whites, chicken breast, fish (Tuna) etc. in your daily diet which are high in proteins. If you are a vegetarian include boiled beans such as kidney beans and black beans in your diet. Also, tofu, nuts and soya milk is rich in proteins.
