Usually, in this period the baby can develop a certain kind of skin inflammation (dermatitis) which causes irritation known as a diaper rash due to the continuous use of diapers. These diaper rashes are mainly caused due to the closed and moist environment of the diaper, frequent urination and stool which is not getting cleaned, yeast infections, poorly laundered diapers, food allergies and sensitivity to diapers as well.

This condition is characterized by symptoms such as redness in skin, swelling and appearance of rashes in the diaper area. There are numerous medicines and ointments available in the market to treat the rashes but when it comes to newborns precautions should be taken and what is better than using natural ingredients to treat the diaper rash.

Yogurt

A great home remedy to prevent the occurrences or fighting off diaper rash is the good old yogurt! Usually the diaper rashes in babies are caused due to yeast infections and yogurt is known to have a great effect in eradicating any infections caused by yeasts. Application of yogurt on the area of the diaper rash for as much time as possible is a great remedy to stop the further rash occurrences and also helps in the disappearance of the earlier ones too. Yogurt can also be smeared on the diapers to control the rashes too.

Another great home remedy to control diaper rashes is the use of warm mustard oil. Application of warm mustard oil on the affected areas can be of great help here. One can massage the oil on the baby’s affected areas at night, at the time of changing diapers or before taking bath as well. This application not only will relax the skin but also reduce the rashes faster too.

Oatmeals can be used in treating the diaper rashes in babies as well due to the high protein content in them which helps in preserving the skin’s natural barrier and also soothes the skin as well. The presence of the compound saponin, helps in the removal of dirt and oil from the pores too helping in controlling the rashes to a great extent. Oatmeal can be used to bathe the baby in after a normal water bath. The oatmeal water bath can be created by adding one spoon oatmeal in water and soaking the affected areas of the baby in it for some time. Cranberry juice can also be effectively used in curing diaper infection sin babies. The urine is highly acidic in nature and causes the skin to have a high pH level, resulting into skin irritation and rashes. Consumption of this juice by the infants helps in preventing bacterial growth which causes the infection to develop which causes the diaper rashes.

Filled with natural healing properties, baking soda helps in neutralizing the acids which is the reason behind the diaper dermatitis in infants. Baking soda also helps in keeping the diaper region clean and dry which is great to prevent infections. The best way to use this is to add some baking soda in the bath water and see the rashes go away in a jiffy. Known to work great against yeast and fungal infections, baking soda is one of the best methods to control diaper rashes.
